Flea Market Day Friday 19 June 2015 - items bought

Yesterday was flea market day at Kg Berjaya Alor Setar and I bought these things:

1. A Chinese tea pot complete with base plate (all in good condition - no chips or blemishes)

2. MG Lee Seng studio vase showing Fort Margherita and the Astana

The vase is about 2.5 ft tall and unglazed. As usual it is signed at the base

3. Traditional Malay serkap to catch fish after the rice harvest is over. Made of bamboo strips with pointed ends. The position of the fish is determined by means of ripples on the water surface and then the serkap is quickly placed ontop. The bamboo strips form a cage, sinking  deep into the mud and trapping the poor fellow. The hand is inserted through the hole at the top to retrieve the fish.

 I wonder if this place still exists.

Would love to see the Map of Malaya set out in tiles in the library section

Well have to wait for next Friday for my next foray........Things are not easy to find these days
